The nutrient rich water that results from fish farming provides a natural fertilizer for growing plants. While the plants consume the nutrients, they help to purify the water that the fish live in. This creates a sustainable eco system in which both the plants and fish thrive. Aquaponics is also the answer to a fish farmers problem of disposing of waste water and has an added benefit of having an alternative source of income from the plants.
